Hearing and Communications Assessment

At Click Hearing we invest highly in the latest hearing test equipment and technology to ensure that you receive the diagnosis, help and support that you need.

Our comprehensive hearing assessment includes so much more than just testing the quietest sounds you can hear. Due to the various reasons that hearing loss can occur we will perform a variety of tests including Otoscopy, Tympanometry, Acoustic Reflexes, Otoacoustic Emissions and Auditory Processing (more detail below) and provide you with a full Audiogram report.

Hearing Tests

Audiometry (Tone or Speech) hearing test

Using tones of varying frequencies and volume, this test provides us with an evaluation of your sense of hearing and is carried out in a sound proof booth for the most accurate measurements.

Tympanometry Test

This test is often carried out in conjunction with audiometry and is used to assess the function of the middle ear. We can also provide ipsi & contralateral reflexes and reflex decay on request.

Brainstem evoked response audiometry hearing test

This test uses electrodes that are placed on the scalp and behind the ears to measure neural responses to brief tones, available in outpatient clinics or theatre for objective tests or reviewing the growth of acoustic neuroma.

Video-otoscopy

Enables us to view the condition of the outer ear and provides us with a permanent photographic record for future reference.

Otoacoustic emissions (DP, TE and SE) hearing tests for babies.

Used to test the function of the cochlea and other parts of the ear to investigate possible early noise damage and objective tinnitus assessment. Further hearing tests may be needed to determine if there is hearing loss or not.

Listening in Spatialised Noise

Sentences Test (LiSN-S) Developed by the National Acoustics Laboratory this is a virtual-reality hearing test that measures speech perception used for the evaluation of auditory processing disorders.

Ear Wax Removal

Click Hearing offers two different types of service for ear wax removal.

Ear wax removal via Microsuction is where the wax is removed using a gentle suction and a high power microscope to view the ear canal and drum. Many Ear Nose and Throat Doctors prefer this method.

Ear wax removal using irrigation is a more traditional method of ear wax removal and offers a less invasive and quieter process than microsuction and is therefore better suited for very nervous or anxious clients.

Both services include an initial inspection and assessment of the ears before the ear wax removal procedure takes place.

If no wax is discovered a consultancy fee of £30 is applied.

Ear Wax Removal Using Microsuction

Microsuction is almost always a ‘same day’ treatment. The ear wax and the ear canal remain in clear vision for the practitioner during the procedure. This improves efficiency of the clearance and reduces risk. Most ear cleaning by microsuction is 100% successful on the first time, with minimal or no oil installation required in advance.
You will have a digital video health check of the ear canal before and after treatment. You can also receive a hearing test to ensure that the hearing is normal after removal of the ear wax

Removal of ear wax by microsuction is usually comfortable, but the vacuum can be noisy. If the wax is very hard or stuck to the eardrum, there can occasionally be some discomfort. Should you find the procedure uncomfortable, please let your practitioner know. When this is the case we may advise for you to use some drops or oil to soften the ear wax and return for another visit.

When should I consider Microsuction?


Hearing aid users who generate lots of wax.
Safe if you have previously had ear surgery or perforated ears.
If you have very hairy ears.
Recommended if you have diabetes.
Safe for those with mastoid cavities.
When you have a perforated ear drum.
When you or have received radiation treatment to the ear canal.
When you have had previous surgery/problems in ear canal where syringing is unsuitable.

Ear Wax Removal Using Irrigation

Ear wax removal using irrigation is a more traditional method of ear wax removal and offers a less invasive and quieter process than microsuction and is therefore better suited for very nervous or anxious clients.

Irrigation is quieter and less invasive than microsuction and is probably a better choice if your wax is very hard or stuck to the eardrum where microsuction can occasionally cause some discomfort.

When should I consider Irrigation?


Hearing aid users who generate lots of wax.
Quieter than microsuction.
Better than microsuction if you are nervous or anxious about the process.
More efficient at removing impacted or deep ear wax.
Preferred if wax is sticky or softer, particularly when ear drops have been overused.

Amazing. Next day booking and plenty of time slots. The receptionist was very friendly, clean and nice waiting room and the lady who did my ear-wax removal was brilliant. Everything was explained, I got to see what was happening and the session itself took no more than 20 mins. I feel like i’ve got a completely new ear! Would 100% recommend and used again. It’s £75 for two ears (even if you only have one doing) but it’s totally worth it!

An utmost professional approach and diagnosis with a painless procedure.

I went in for 'vestibular function tests'. The audiologist was excellent. Very personable and friendly. She kept me informed in straightforward, non-jargon language and I felt by the end of it all that I understood what had just happened and what it all meant, rather than just having experienced some sort of arcane medical experiment. Extremely easy to book. I loved being able to see inside my ear after years of ear treatment. The staff were friendly, the service very quick and all in all a fabulous experience. I had the micro suction and won't hesitate to return for it again, along with when I need a hearing aid.

Brilliant service. I was having trouble with my hearing and found click hearing online, as I live locally. My appointment was booked for the very next day. I went to my appointment and greeted by a friendly lady on reception. Hayley was fantastic, talked me through everything and made sure I was comfortable during my Microsuction procedure. She was professional, friendly and knowledgeable.
The procedure was worth every penny and I will happily recommend and return in future.
