Tinnitus Awareness Week (TAW) is taking place from 8-14 February 2016, and Click Hearing is proud to be supporting this awareness programme.

By raising the awareness of Tinnitus it is hoped that more people can be encouraged to seek help rather than believing that there is no help available.

But what exactly is Tinnitus?

Well the British Tinnitus Association describe it as ‘the perception of sound in the absence of any corresponding external sound. This noise may be heard in one ear, in both ears or in the middle of the head or it may be difficult to pinpoint its exact location. The noise may be low, medium or high‑pitched. There may be a single noise or two or more components. The noise may be continuous or it may come and go.’

It affects 10% of the UK population and 50% of those that have a hearing loss. Many people go through life simply accepting this condition, but there are lots of different products and techniques that can help alleviate the problem.

For many the first step is to visit a GP who may refer you to an ENT consultant for further assessment. Visiting the British Tinnitus Association website will also offer lots of useful information, in particular, how to manage Tinnitus.

Click Hearing also has a video here that offers advice on what to do next. Many of our customers with normal hearing manage their Tinnitus through products such as sound generators and sound pillows, while those with a hearing loss can receive relief through their hearing aids when correctly set up.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss your Tinnitus with us further.
